I call this the “wake up phase.” If something in your life is making you unhappy, you have to wake up and realize that this is unacceptable. You first realize that things can be different, then you open your eyes to those possibilities.
I’ve said this before and I’m sure it won’t be the last: only you can make yourself happy. No one else will do it for you (though I’m sure having the right, caring person in your life can make it easier — but usually that’s because that person is happy in their own skin first), no car, no house, no amount of money in the bank account, no job situation, no ring on your finger, nothing is going to make you happy until you fix you first.Draw the line in the sand. Realize a ship on the ocean doesn’t just turn around on a dime — it does take time and effort in order to reverse course. On that note, if you realize you’ve just passed the building you’re trying to get to, you don’t make two right turns to go around the block then decide to keep going straight. No, you’ve got to make turns three and four to get back to the same street your building is on (unless you’re in Portland in which it’s nearly impossible to go around the block — just kidding, sort of). If you know your “happiness” is in that building (metaphorically, not literally), you’re not going to start taking action then stop halfway through the motions and just start drifting again. Or at least I hope you’re not. Only steady, consistent action will get you back around. I think I’m getting ahead of myself here.
The point is, wake up and realize you’ve got to take action. Make that choice. Start Rockin’ Life today!
